Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Digital payments technology provider, Soft Space is proud to announce its second official launch in Malaysia, marking its 13th bank client in 3 years of operation.

Maybank, Malaysia’s leading bank has partnered with Maxis, Malaysia’s leading communications service provider, to enable SMEs and small retail businesses to leverage off the power of wireless payment mobility.

Maybank aims to attract 4,000 new merchants in the first year, with Maxis providing bundled solutions consisting of the latest devices and attractive communication plans to the telco’s large SME customer base, especially those in sub-urban areas.

“This new service is targeted especially to SMEs and small retailers who will appreciate its seamless features and recognise the importance of providing their customers with added convenience for payments,” said B Ravintharan, Maybank Group Head of Cards.

Ravintharan added that this new payment technology was part of on-going efforts to enhance Maybank’s value proposition to customers and to support the e-payments initiative outlined in the Financial Sector Blueprint, which targets 25 point of sales (POS) per 1,000 inhabitants by 2020 especially among the SMEs.

“We see a good synergy between the banks and telcos; leveraging off each other to empower SMEs and small retail businesses; with mobile card payments. We are proud to have successfully implemented our Centralised EMV mPOS solution in Maybank and to be their official Technology Partner,” said Chang Chew Soon, CEO of Soft Space.

He added that Maybank is the 13th bank to utilise the Soft Space centralised EMV payment platform. Other banks include CIMB Bank, Kasikorn Bank, Bank of New Zealand and Vietinbank, to name a few.

“We will be introducing some exciting features that complement our mPOS solution this year and will be announcing some of these innovations in the coming months. We are on a mission to create seamless payment experiences that benefit both businesses and consumers. We are glad Maybank is on board with us” concluded Chang.

The Maybank mPOS offering starts from as low as RM10/mth with no other upfront costs. and is capable of accepting cards issued by American Express, Mastercard and Visa.
